Joint Army For Somalia

Somalia's Interim Government has agreed to form a joint army with the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC), an Islamic Militia that holds sway over the majority of the south Somalia. Both parties have agreed in principal "to build armed forces like an army and police" incorporating both the UIC's militia and forces loyal to the government. In this way it is hoped that the country can begin the process of organising a effective central government which its has been without since 1991. However this will depend on a further agreement being reached on the 30th October in Sudan. The agreement also binds both sides to resist from seeking aid from Somalia's neighbours in the conflict.
